The Trump admin saying federal jobs will only go to qualified people is pretty lol. Last time they were incompetent by even white republican standards. Made the W Bush administration look the Team of Rivals.
The problem with using DEI as a slur and as code for unqualified and incompetent is that there are plenty of highly qualified and highly competent people who are not white men. People smarter than lozen will argue that this is exactly why affirmative statements and policies in support of diversity hiring are unnecessary. I don't agree in all circumstances, but I do in some, and I understand the argument. In any case, conservatives rushing to blame DEI hires every time something goes wrong and the Democrats are in charge is pretty gross and transparent.
(This post doesn't really have anything to do one way or the other with the 2024 election.)

And that's what the main objective is. If Musk did the salute on purpose, it's to get everyone arguing and taking sides so that people aren't asking each other, "So a bunch exploitative billionaires are running the country... how does that benefit me?"
