Weird hand, how bad/spewy is this?
I never play tournaments, so here goes.
$250 tourney, 5,000/10,000 blinds, ave stack is 400k, I have 300k. 30bb. 40/450
Closing the action getting t4.5-1 on the 32K call, ugh. I hope BB spiked a queen on the river for the main pot and went on to win the whole thing.
The flat call is profitable. You may get more in if you hit. The protected pot makes it harder to get action with a set, but you have some implied odds. Sometimes a pair of 8s is good and sometimes you can bet them off on a low flop. It is actually a pretty good preflop result with 88 to see a flop 4-ways. You are never going to get really high expectation with this hand, because it isn't a big hand.
Yeah I think I should have been more scared of button since he saw the early limps and still raised, but he had been very aggressive in general. Flop was 662, so I would have lost a good chunk of my stack anyway at minimum. Button ended up shipping the whole thing. Meh.

Agreed. My “ugh” was directed towards the shove, poor writing by me. Clearly it’s an EV+ call (V obviously had the worst possible hand for H). As OP said, flop 662, a good chunk is going in there at minimum.
I’m still not crazy about limping behind in UTG1 w/88 at a table where no one’s been limping. There’s 179K in the pot, is V folding 99 on the button if H bets 100K into the 662 flop? Or if H now shoves?
