The 911 has always been my dream car, any gen, any model. Never sat in one, certainly never drove one. Hoping to one day, I guess.
But I always thought the Nissan 300Zx was the poor man's 911? Former cow'orker had one I got to ride in once. Was actually pretty impressed with the performance.
I think it's tough to compare the 911 to a lot of cars just because how it drives and 911 TT is on another level.
I was going to say maybe the 928, but I guess that's more of a GT (although the 928 GTS was an awesome car).
I always thought the RX-7 FD was one of the nicest looking cars ever. For the mid-90s I liked the 300z as well. Was never a huge fan of the Supra, but I know it had a good following.
None of those cars are like the 911. In my dumb days hanging out with the dude with the 300z another friend of ours would take his mom's 911 twin turbo out and at 2 am we would go a little beyond the speed limit on 40 in St. Louis. One time I was riding with the guy in the 300z going about 130 and the 911 flew past us like we were standing still. He beat us to Denny's. We'd get out of the car in the parking lot and the pavement under the 911's engine in the back would be glowing red. Sick.

The 911 turbo and Eclipse GSX both were 2 door coups that were turbo charged and had AWD. Both also having a silly oversized wing on the back.
Apparently GM liked the RX-7 design too.

So jealous you had an FD. Since you know about STL, there was one that used to go to the Ballys in Maryland Heights. Red and absolutely beautiful. That was probably about 10 years ago. 300zx turbo was a car I was looking at buying, but ending up going with a G37S black manual cause all those 90s JDM cars were outrageous prices especially 2 years ago, but I also spent out the ass for the G considering. Great condition, however, and still need to do a few mods to make it beautiful.

Traded it for an S2000. Traded that for a 911. I still think the rx7 was the better looking car, but the 911 was great to drive.

I still have it and in great shape with only 33k miles thanks to kids. Between 1996 and 2001 I put 25k on it and only 8k since. The red one may have been Rob McCormick's of SAVVIS/Avatara and the strip club lawsuit from a bunch of years ago. According to public records he still owns it.

I'm not against yellow, but this is like saying Ferrari's are too red.... you just can't go wrong with it.
Now I'm curious about how many were made in black.... it just doesn't suit that car.
