These countries are under pressure from their ignorant woke citizens. It's all about what's in their best interest politically. they don't care about the safety of Israel.

Also, many of these countries are Muslim. They obviously will be voting for a ceasefire.

by mongidig

We see Europe finally going to far right governments to fight what's going on over there.

I'm having trouble squaring these statements.

All I'm getting is
153 countries voted for an immediate ceasefire because of their woke citizens and many of these countries are Muslim (though not the European countries who have moved to the right).

Is your thesis that Muslim countries are woke and European countries are unwoke?

Good. Guess that's terrorism, folks!

Just a night with a lot of broken glass to protest the dirty rotten Jews. No biggie.

Don't conflate attacks on supporters of the Israeli government's actions with attacks on Jewish people or culture, especially when it's an institution like Barclays whose French office collaborated with the Nazis during WW2 and which was an important supporter of apartheid in South Africa.

weird to read the bloke's stuff knowing he wrote it while hostages were locked in the next room. yuck

We don't have the full details of this yet but it's a pretty disturbing photograph.

The operative word is "We don't have the details yet. The unfortunate part is people will look at this picture and use it to fortify whatever narrative they believe before getting the facts. There is a big difference between kidnapping and detaining for interrogation purposes. Lets not conflate the awful Hamas terrorists with the civilized people of Israel.

BTW...Are we sure these are kids? Also, it's quite likely that all of the individuals in this photo participated in violence against the IDF. They are lucky to be alive. Hamas would have just killed the Israeli kids if the situation was reversed.

by jalfrezi

Not like they're Israeli children either. Now that would be something to get angry about.

It's horrific that any child and his family has to pay the price for what Hamas did and continues to do.

by jalfrezi

It's not better but it is more cowardly of the US. it's also completely self-defeating.

It's not about ego it's about making sense. The US supports Israel because it's the only ally in the area. They want Israel to fight the terrorists over there to keep them away from us. If it wasn't for Israel western societies would be under a constant threat from Islamic terrorists.

Well, the fat middle-aged bloke isn't a kid, for one.

No, that's not particularly likely. It's just a photo, and we don't know the context. If it really was taken in the circumstances claimed, the IDF were presumably evacuating a particular location they were interested in and wanted to be certain that these individuals weren't carrying anything. (Though I don't suppose the IDF mind humiliating people while they're at it.) As for 'kidnapped back to Israel,' you don't want to believe anything Frances Coppola says.

Is it possible these folks are just doing the Conga at a party somewhere?

Not extreme enough presumably.

Lmao the moderation in the Israel/Palestine thread is a complete farce.

I made a post that read, “So is Hamas a tiny percentage of the Gazan population or an omnipresent force with eyes and ears everywhere?”, which got deleted.

.

wait, actually?

At 70% support and with the logistics to do some of what's being done in the busiest civilian areas, it's a certainty that this is true.

The details of why the op had to be done the way it was done are coming out now. It's essentially a near suicidal op specifically because of how virtually impossible it is to get to hostages in civilian areas without it being tipped off (and subsequently either moving the hostages or having them killed). They had to create a massive diversion to have a reason to have vehicles close to overcome that essentially (among a whole other list insane logistical hurdles that come when you choose a place so dense in civilians to use to hold hostages).

Hamas only has a few triggermen, let's be clear. But they have a very supportive cooperative civilian environment. And I don't think that's speaking ill of the civilians in the way any mod thinks it is. They're loyal to their guys. So be it. Many many of the hostages who've come home spent their entire time in civilian homes. This is real.

There are groups of people here I don't like but it's not right to want them deported.

I don't understand, you have a poll with 85% not trusting Bibi (not sure if that's the same as disapproval but let's pretend it is), you should be happy right?

At this point I'm thinking gazans, not hamas, have a right to defend themselves and attack Israel.

not sure how anyone could disagree.

They are defending themselves - and I would agree that they have a right to defend. But they've done a horrible job as of late because Hamas are the stooges of the ME.

There has certainly been an attempt to separate Gazans from Hamas, and I get it because there are a lot of innocent Gazans in the mix through no fault of their own other than being born there, but I don't think it's been very accurate to do so.

The United Nations Security Council has voted to support a US-proposed Israel-Gaza ceasefire plan.

It sets out conditions for a "full and complete ceasefire", the release of hostages held by Hamas, the return of dead hostages' remains and the exchange of Palestinian prisoners.

Fourteen of the 15 Security Council members, including the US, voted in favour of the resolution. Russia abstained.

The resolution states that Israel has accepted the ceasefire proposal, and urges Hamas to agree to it, too.

No I mean defend themselves by arming themselves with a resistance and going into israel and taking out israeli citizens like how israel is defending themselves against hamas.

What are the odds Bibi actually did accept the proposal this time?

10%? 20%?

They can. And they did. And it didn't work. And it was a bad idea.

there is no symmetry, and at some point you need to take a side, and no they are not equal morally or otherwise

It would be nice to be able to have a proper dialogue on these subjects (rather than the one sided views/enforcement of truth).
