That's UN resolution 1701, stating Hezbollah is not go South of the Litani River. It's a clean easy line to keep things from going literally insane.

As of Christmas basically, Hezbollah had launched almost 600 attacks from there, it's near 1000 surely by now. So 1000 attacks including things like guided antitank missiles, and drone attacks like this yesterday:

Trolly do you know how long your country/state would wait before hitting that in force? I'll give you a hint, they wouldn't wait for 600-1000 attacks and evacuate the civilian population into hotels for 6 months. You guys have the immense privilege of not understanding what it might be like to live like this . But Israel doesn't have to accept Hezbollah attacking them from there 100's of times, and so they will indeed go get those guys. Same as you would expect your government to do to protect your kids in your neighborhood.

Trolly you didn't raise a child in a war zone. You can't know what it's like. Taking the fight to someone thousands of miles away is nothing like having the fight on your doorstep every day. These things are not the same. Your home town is not evacuated right now.

For American interests I would say the last 20 years worked out pretty good.

Using pretty much any metric you could think of, if you asked me to rank how America did during the last 20 years versus predicting the next 20, I would snap bet the previous 20.
