My favorite personal tidbit re: Tesla is people talking about how it's so cool that the car has a 'camping' mode. Like...how can you not laugh at that?

I don't even know what that means

It's some mode that levels the car and reduces power consumption so you can charge your iPad or something. i.e., not camping.

Camping mode is just that the car keeps the environmental controls and entertainment center active.

So if you are sleeping in the back, the car just doesn't turn off.

There is also dog mode. So you can leave your dog in the car and will keep it cool while you're shopping. You can also pop up the in car camera on your phone to see how the dog is doing

There's also bioweapon defense mode

Movie: Poor Things

a. Artistic masterpiece
b. Weird porn flick

?

i didn't see poor things but the new tv mini series "shogun" is good af! it's based on one of my all time favorite books. adventure in 1600 japan

I think somewhere in the middle. It's certainly aesthetically very interesting, the acting is great, it's very fantastical and the themes are great. I don't know if I was that inspired by it tho. Left the theater only thinking, 'that was interesting'. But then I read some reviews that mention some of the major changes from the book and became pretty disappointed. They changed the character of the story, Hollywood-ified it...I think some of the book that got erased to make the film would have made it a better film, but perhaps not as successful. What did you think?

What did you think?

I haven't seen it yet. Mainly because the wife said no-way, she's not interested.

I admit that the long 2 1/2 hour runtime kind of worries me. I'm also probably already biased towards expecting it to be the "Weird porn flick"

I figured Filthy would come in with a glowing review and I would know to stay away from it. :p

A, but also B.

It was great. My 2nd favorite (after Past Lives) of an elite Best Picture field.

if a girl wins the golden globe for best actress, and also the sag award, has she always won the oscar too?

Fwiw my female partner did not appreciate the gratuitous sex and nudity. I suppose I didn't either, but only in that I thought most of it was completely unnecessary to tell the story. Like how a fart joke can be funny, but if they just keep happening it just becomes "oh, another fart joke" after a while. They try to impart so much humor into her discovering sex, quick awkward segues that just occur too often take away the strength in the humor. You begin to expect it and then they try to throw it in unexpectedly and it kinda started losing me. Still thought it was a great film, could have been better.

I appreciate your comments! I admit, I'm pretty intrigued.

It's going to be the Billie Eilish one.

Poor Things is a work of genius. That Greek guy has got it, he made The Lobster too.

Probably it's a decent favorite and clearly a better sang song though I couldn't have said where in the movie it took place.

Unlikely things happen all the time.

I loved the original Shogun miniseries back in the day, and also the book (I've read all of the Asian Saga except Whirlwind - I think it is just too modern to appeal to me.) The trailers for this new version have put me off; they just feel too stylized and slick. It looks self-conscious. Whatever that means.

king rat is a great book

shogun is a great book

tai pan is meh

the rest are garbage imo

Update on the "Going to the Race" saga?

Them coming out with a Shogun reboot mostly just reminds me that I'm ****ing old. I read Shogun and the other Clavell books that were out then in the mid-1980s. Approximately a million years ago.

Which reminds me, I don't think I ever did read Gai-Jin.

Update on the "Going to the Race" saga?

eh..honestly I don't even know how to answer this. No update on the race thing, I'm leaving next Tuesday for it, it's not even really a thing anymore because.... I think our relationship might be over (for other reasons). But even saying that doesn't make sense, because we talk every day, but only via email for a few weeks. I'm just gonna say it: she has BPD. If you know anybody with that you probably know that relationships with them are quite often difficult to describe. Things change constantly. I don't know why I do this to myself, but my god I love her. I met her on and hiked the AT together with her! Having a partner that suffers from that is like being with someone that both hates you and can't stand to be without you at the same time. It's hard, man.

I just wanna go climbing again. The weather has been awful for getting outside this winter, but no snow so not even pretty at least. In the past year my main climbing partner moved to NYC, and 6 months ago my other climbing partner nearly died in a ground fall and has been hesitant to get back on big routes with me (understandably). I should have never taken up climbing, it instantly made everything else seem boring lol
