How did Bobby Baldwin become CEO of MGM/Mirage?
I see the lineage of his ascendancy as far as Wikipedia shows it, but I don't know that he went to college. Did he just seem like he had a good mind for casinos and get his first job as a consultant and just impress his way up from there? I mean, he is obviously very smart, but unless he went to school for something along those lines, this seems a pretty incredible story. It's not like there's a lot of other poker players heading up casinos. My guess would be he was a consultant as a poker room manager or similar, as many pros become, and showed major business aptitude from there.

Sorry for bumping but pulled up this thread looking for something else and now can’t stop laughing (sorry n00bs, you had to have been there).
Thank you Kerze, whoever & wherever you are.
Had something to do with a private game in Tulsa I believe. Bobby actually made a fairly juicy comment to me about the decision to reject him on the day it happened which I may divulge one day when I write my tell all autobiography. I think the vote was 3-0 against him. But then a few weeks later there was the unheard of 9-0 reversal, the only way he gets approved. I don't know
😊
It is intriguing. I wonder if it was something as mundane as Wynn greasing the wheels for him.A tell-all from you would certainly sell. So many people with great stories are taking them to their graves... The guy I get all my old time poker stories from has a ton of them, and some of them involve the household names of poker, but aside from the handful that I can remember and
The book exists. Geeking Grifting and Gambling through Las Vegas. And the Brandi incident is covered to the degree I have permission from Sue (the woman who has been with me for twenty years and was threatened by Brandi.)

Spoiler
Introduction has a sentence with “probably”, “literally”, and “virtually” in it, in that order.
Am enjoying Grifting so far. Well worth $10 Kindle imo.
David, if you’re there I have a question about the final hand of 1975 WSOP Hi-Lo between you & Doyle mentioned in Grifters. All the money went in on 4th St:
Doyle 832A
You 8654
Assuming no flush draws and that I’m not a total idiot, it was straightforward to figure out by hand that you scoop about 20% of the time, but how often does Doyle scoop?

Who sells the hard copy version in Las Vegas ?
as someone who is going to have an ivy league degree with a strong GPA in a few months, i can confidently say most people would learn VASTLY more if they put in half the effort on their own actually trying to learn that the average college student puts into doing trivial mindless crap to fulfill expectations.
Here is a more educated version:
As someone who will soon graduate from an Ivy League institution with a strong GPA, I can say with confidence that most people would learn far more by devoting even half the effort to genuine, self-directed study that the average college student expends on trivial, mindless tasks performed merely to satisfy institutional expectations.

college is worth a lot to people who understand what it is. "legacies" understand it the most. Do what they do to the best of your ability and you will get a lot out of a college with lots of rich grads/alumni who stay in the town the college is located in (like USC or UCLA). Colleges in towns where everyone leaves (like washington state or Iowa state) are worth far less.
Funniest part of this thread is that Daliman went on to live in Las Vegas and let scammers stay with him as long as they slept with him. “I am shocked, shocked, that someone got something without the proper pedigree!”. You old horndog Daliman, much respect.
