Seems pretty clear the Lakers would have moved off LeBron entirely if they had the option. As is, they have no choice but to have him around moaning about the roster until he decides there is a deal he likes available.
They could have gotten something done with DFS imo, but it seems to me that they don’t feel they are anywhere near it for this year and aren’t going to be. The Minny series was tough - as much as it was largely down to Luka not being where he’ll need to be in the coming years.
Maybe Luka turns up to start the year in incredible shape, maybe Ayton really tries, maybe Reaves takes a step forward and maybe LeBron is healthy again…but this is likely an above .500 play-in roster imo.
If Luka signs on August 2nd then it will appear he and his camp are fully bought into what is happening now. At that point it’s down to Rich Paul to find some sort of deadline deal that gets LeBron to a contender - and that’s tough to figure out. Gonna be a lot of passive aggressive locker room interviews this year, and everyone loves those! 😀

I’m going to choose to view this as a positive sign that they are bullish on Kawhi health since Norm is like basically an 80% Kawhi clone on offense when he’s on. He fell off a cliff after getting hurt and Kawhi came back, so if they think Kawhi is actually going to play he doesn’t add as much.
Not a huge Collins fan, but he gives them more size and real stretch 4 besides decrepit Batum to roll out with Zubac. If they give him an extension, I’ll be annoyed as they are somehow primed to have cap space next year.

On top of him listing franchises he didn’t want to play for, there were further rumors that a top prospect specifically said they didn’t want to play with Melo. I assumed it was Ace. But yeah, he probably would have played. The alternative would be worse.
