Well I'm pretty sure you would if it was a war and you needed all the help you could get.

In principle we should strive to follow the best moral code possible, but it is hard not to see interviews with Trump supporters proudly spouting stupidity and not feel at least a bit frustrated at the prospect of trying to extend an olive branch to them.

It helps to think about things in a bit less absolute terms. The idea that every trump supporter is fundamentally immoral is undercut by the fact that most people’s political views in general are underdeveloped. That goes for every part of the political spectrum.

What's the point of the bolded part of your post?

The Dems were so dumb in 2024, that election doesn't count.

That came out more preachy than I meant. What I’m really trying to say is that the circumstances we find ourselves in tend to play a huge role in shaping people’s beliefs and behavior. I think 20th-century Germany is a good example of that. Those were real Nazis who committed the most horrific of crimes. Yet once Hitler was gone and the immediate rawness of the war faded, West Germans integrated back into the Western world fairly quickly and smoothly. Same with the Civil War.

So it's not that the underlying character of millions of people suddenly transformed overnight. More like the political and social circumstances around them changed. I think that shapes our views far more than we’d like to admit. And by us I mean a large pack of apex predators who are basically wired to insta fall into a phalanx when conditions warrant.

What policies would Harris have implemented that would make life better for the middle class or poor?

I can't recall any other than I am not Trump and I'd do nothing different than Biden

Honestly, in retrospect with where the US stands today, would the country be better off just having been going business as usual Biden path or where Trump has taken us?
Not oh he did this one thing better than Kamala would have ever done, I mean as a whole.

If we win WWIII, then Trump > Biden.

If we lose WWIII then Biden > Trump.

If there is no WWIII, then it's up-for-grabs.

There’s very little any politician can do to fundamentally change life for the middle class. They’re basically the economy’s equilibrium. Policies shift the top or bottom, but the middle mostly stays… well, middle.

Middle-class married households income:

20th percentile: ~$65k

50th percentile (median): ~$125k

80th percentile: ~$230k

As far as helping the poor, all politicians can do is deprive the upper-middle class consumption and give it to poor HHs. Good luck finding one... and that includes Bernie/AOC with their 1%ers mantra.

Same goes with Trump/GOP and their “creating better-paying jobs" mantra. Energy, consumer goods and rents are like a balloon: squeeze one and one or both of the others expand.

If Trump can actually manage to fix college sports especially in regards to conference alignment, if Trump can figure out how to restore the PAC-12, then he'll go down as the greatest president in history.

I didn't know that was something he was working on. Would be quite a feather in the cap but not sure helping the west coast is high in his priority.

But the white hillbilly redneck cartoon charactor that we are blaming is a dying breed and was never an influential voter yet the dems are bleeding votes and the reps somewhat gaining.

by geezerchess

The bolded is the cliche that many lefties continue to believe. James Talarico demonstrated last week that a different approach is attractive to many voters.

Lol This is white fragility 101. No democrat has ever run a campaign based on the hillbilly problem. It's obvious that republicans can say pretty much anything about minorities or immigrants but there is just no votes to be gained by talking about trailer park trash living off of welfare that sucked up 100s of thousands in public funding for their education that is below non rural 12 year olds. And lol at Talerico being a different approach. The bland "I'm a christian but not a terrible person" shtick is about as fresh as Jimmy Carter.

I’d explain but what do you care?

Cause it's funny?

IRONY ALERT!!!

Most post by you, SRM and coordi, et. al. (collectively) include an ad hominem, you tard!

I can think of a 6 letter word you probably wished you could have said instead of this shorthand for another 6 letter word

I mean if UCLA wants to be in the Big 10 then ok. But Cal and Stanford in the ACC is a travesty.

I'll bet that dems break the all time midterms record this year. If you want to say given Trump, Dems should be winning presidentials in landslides....ok.

I do believe that obviously as I've mentioned that several times. But I fully agree with you that the dems may crush in the mid terms. I just don't think it needed to require a madman embarking on WWIII to rally support - but again just my opinion.

by ecriture d'adulte

I meant modern republicans in high office. There was a drastic gap between how Limbaugh talked and how the actual president talked. That no linger exists. And Dems aren't really losing votes. Biden got the most votes ever and Harris got more votes than Trump 2020, which was the most a republican ever got at the time. I'll bet that dems break the all time midterms record th

Ftr, I dont think the dems are some washed up party and youre correct obviously with the success Biden had and so forth. My issue mostly stems with the belief that Bernie would have performed much better, but we dont need to go down that road.

I'm just saying Dems are not losing votes. A replay of 2006 and 2008 is definitely on the table for 2026 and 2028. Sanders ran in 2020 and did not outperform....he couldn't even match his 2016 performance despite a ton of money.

Do you even know who James Talarico is? He certainly isn't 'bland', and most of the Dem voters in Texas found his positive approach refreshing, as proven by his decisive win over Crockett in the Senate primary.

Of course I know who he is. Part of why he won is voters persevered him as bland and more electable in a state that Republicans have run for 30 years and is better suited to surviving be attack ads against in the most expensive senate race ever in the richest right wing state in the country. The guy literally taught jr high lol...... White people love James Talerico because he makes Bob Costas look like Abbie Hoffman

Okay, now I understand what you meant. Thanks.
