I do remember reading the amount of Canadian forest fires have actually decreased. they are just bigger. I mean it can't all be climate change I would imagine were also just not fighting them as well because were poor and broke or just bad variance

Over time we seem to have gotten better at suppressing small, human started fires close to where humans live. But 85% of area burned is due to lightning strikes, making these large remote fires worse over time. That seems more consistent with climate change being a contributing factor than an alleged decline in our fire fighting which has record expenditure. There is a lot of variance in any given year though, ironically this year is a pretty good year despite the political attention from the us.

blaming it only on climate change is a bit of a cop out and a little too easy for my liking and will probably be used as an excuse to not increase the budget. Climate changes slowly increases the % and range of bigger fires but its a very gradual increase what happened the last 5+ years is certainly variance but their could be other more obvious contributing factors. Why not invest that submarine money into something useful like water bombers. Canada urgently needs more water bombers. im sure we can get that included in are nato gdp budget
