President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Which I would hope is obviously different to my point that those helped are extremists. Even that doesn't simply translate into such naive formal logic.

(and for anyone grunching, socialist being extremists is just nonsense imo)

I just talked to my neighbor who is a high level manager at a large (nationwide) architectural firm. She said it's the worst business climate for her company since she's been there (a long time). Business has declined every month since the inauguration. They are laying off a bunch of their workforce. She said the first thing they've had to do is scramble to fix all of their w

So it's true Trump admin is signifcantly cutting expenses? just a few weeks ago you guys were all deriding efforts to cut expenditure as minimal, insignificant and so on...

Difficulty is not the only issue. For 8 years in college and grad school I always used my home state ID which was good enough for everything. But if I was in Florida or whatever I would have had to get a separate photo ID just for voting as out of state licenses were fine for banking, driving, renting, flying, alcohol literally everything but voting. They obviously knew that

I thought that people at out of state college were still considered residents of their home states and supposed to vote there.

The post was hopeless. He might as well as said that hitler was an extremist so if we vote least worse then hitler will gain.

Hitler does seem to have gained from lesser-evil voting, as some people thought the Nazis were a lesser evil than the Stalinist KPD. The KPD, meanwhile, considered the Nazis a lesser evil than the Social Democrat SPD, who, on Stalin's orders, they called 'Social Fascists' and considered the real enemy. The KPD even endorsed a Nazi referendum to overturn the SPD government of Prussia in 1931. The referendum failed, but the KPD went on to support the NSDAP in a series of strikes in Berlin in 1932, sharing picket lines. Stalin's theory was that Nazi rule in Germany would fail and then his KPD would take over, which did not quite work out in the way he planned.

But the silliness aside the worst aspect to me was thee assertion that i was saying that socialist are extremists.

Some of them are, and they tend to be entryists who pretend they just want nice Scandi things when they actually want 1984 and all that.

Who will then get a job doing essentially the same thing at an architectural firm that positioned itself better.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects an 8% growth rate for architecture employment through 2033, indicating a faster-than-average increase for the field.

Same sector to sector: a lot of retail firms will go out of business but the employees will go to work as laborers tearing down those stores and building apartments.

My point is that if you want to take down the GOP, both the shitlibs and the lefties are going to have to find a way to shake hands - because neither alone are going to be enough to beat them. But we are probably going need a recession or maybe WW3 before that happens with how stubborn you people are because you had all the artillery needed but decided to shell it at each othe

Im going to blame the leftist on this they seem to never be happy they want the party to adopt their positions 100% . And they seem to always find an excuse to not to vote ( I remember when Kamala was looking for her VP they said Walz or we riot . Kamala picked Walz they still didn’t vote 🤷🏻*♂️😂😉

Normalisation of racism and satisfaction of seeing the gestapo rounding immigrants up. It’s not nothing to them.

Edit maybe this Eurotrash should keep quiet too

Missing the point if you think this was a generalization by me

I was just using your argument by your own lights. But yes, I think that it sort of turns on premise 2 whether or not you would be committed to the conclusion, although myself I think premise 1 is far more objectionable. I don’t think lesser evil voting helps our politics become extreme.

I just wonder what definition of extremism you could use that would include the far right but exclude the far left that isn’t tautological. My understanding is that socialists/communists would just deny extremism as a criterion for evaluating political positions.

But I would probably retract the argument just because it seems like it’s just going to come down to a semantic argument on what the word extremist means. Really I should just deny that closer preference voting leads to more extremism at all rather than trying to run an internal critique based off of an underdeveloped argument.

Afaik a significant portion of the increase of ICE funding is about building tens of thousands more slots to keep detained illegals waiting to be deported. Did i get that wrong?

No you didn't. You made it about all extremists that was just nonsense. Nothing to do with 'my lights'

Who are extremists is another matter

'My lights' are that voting 'least worst' prevents dealing with the structural issue that are leading to an increase in polarisation, a breadown in societal norms etc etc This breakdown is to the gain of extremists who thrive on this breakdown. Not all extremists will gain - some are dead, some will lose, some might not bother, soem might not be about etc etc but the groups who will gain will be extremists.

I don’t see it the same way. But again, what are extremists to you? Because I would say that people radically opposed to capitalism such that they call normal functions of capitalism like speculation, stock markets, billionaires, wage labor, capital accumulation, etc as bad are pretty extreme.

I know there’s the meme of “wanting healthcare for everyone isn’t extreme” (or any number of other bernie bro memes) but that’s going to be an overly inclusive definition of socialism if we think that policies like M4A, GND, Free College, etc are socialist.

by checkraisdraw

I don’t see it the same way.

That's the problem--people defining these terms as they see fit.
Radical meant tearing up the Constitution. So you had the radical left wanting socialism and at least in theory a radical right wanting a dictatorship. Extremists, left or right, pushed constitutional boundaries to the extreme towards those global poles.

Section 3 Disqualification from Holding Office
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.

I have no issue with you not seeing it the same way. The problem was your nonsense logic about the way i see it

Anyway moving to extremists. I generally mean those opposed to an inclusive well functioning democracy.

Define well functioning? and why would "inclusive" be necessary not to be an extremist? a word that isn't even part of the american constitution?

You will no doubt de delighted to hear me say they are vague.
