Broke in South East Asia
Before travelling to the Philippines I grinded up a small roll of a couple of thousand dollars online which I withdrew for travelling funds, next stop is Vietnam, Hanoi. All my flights and accommodation are paid for although I'm very low on funds! Being pickpocketed by a toothless ladyboy in Manila and having to buy a new iPhone didn't help the travel funds.
Anyway, I'm out of money and have grinded up a roll online before, so figured why not commit some time each day to grinding up another roll online so I at least have a little money for when I land back in the UK. I'm not sure how many hours each day I'll play, but I'll aim to average at least a couple of thousand hands a day. I have no external monitor as I'm travelling and a small screen so I'll be playing 2 zoom tables on stars. I'm not sure how often I'll update this, we shall see. I started with literally 70 dollars, I can not afford to redeposit as I'm broke. I started at 5nl, at 120 bucks i moved to 10nl, the bankroll now stands at 216 bucks. I'll grind 10nl until at least 500 bucks before taking a 4 buy in shot at 25nl.
Knowing I can't redeposit I feel will help me play better, I have no choice but to succeed.
My style of play is theory based with exploitative deviations based on population and player tendencies.
so far I've played 17,250 hands since deciding to attempt to grind up this roll. I have 40 days left before I have to fly back, I'm sure I'll continue grinding once I'm back in the UK.
Anyway wish me luck, maybe I'll see some of you at the tables if you grind micro stakes online. I'll be at the zoom tables on stars, say hi.

Lmao, broke but bought an iphone. Well, i know this blog won't last long but GL dude. Stay away from the ladyboys.
good player, but you have to be careful with those expenses. i would know 😂
gl!
So far today I have played 1612 hands, just under 19k total. I feel i need a food and coffee break!
I'm really happy with how I'm playing, I feel having pretty much nothing has been very good for my game. I think in the past although I have been profitable and have been able to grind up a roll, I realise now I was being too agro in spots, also playing too wide.
Some adjustments I've made are playing tighter pre, especially from EP, hands that are mixes like Kjo QJo i fold pure, I'm also folding pure some of the other mixes like the small pocket pairs. At the micros people play way too many hands and don't 3 bet enough, so I feel hands like the weakest off suite broadways go way down in value from EP at these stakes when you're going to face too many flats ahead. I'm also attacking strong ranges less often. I really have to fight the urge to fight for some pots. I like to play aggressively and be creative, but at the micros i don't need to, i just need to be patient as they'll be much easier opportunities to win pots.
I'm also not worrying about being balanced, in each spot i consider how my opponent may be playing based on player notes, tags, hud stats, population tendencies, and then pick what i believe is the maximally exploitative line for my hand in that moment. i won't be at 10nl long enough or play with the same players regularly enough to worry about being counter exploited, also even if they know exactly what I am doing they will likely not know how to adjust correctly or won't adjust at all.
Anyway I may continue the grind after a break.
Not sure how often I'll update, maybe daily or perhaps a couple of times a week.

GREAT ADVICE!
Thanks for the feedback, I will continue the grind today! Good luck in your own poker endeavours ✌️
Decent session today, kind of short, just 1148 hands. Not sure if I'll get to play more today as i have plans. Still happy with the result. $39.40 dollar profit and with a bonus that takes the balance to $290 dollars. Hopefully I continue to play well and I'll soon be taking shots at 25nl. I really can't wait to play 25nl again, still a little short to take shots.
Really happy with my current strategy.

First session in a couple of days as I have been travelling and very tired, finally settled in my air bnb in Hanoi. Hanoi is very cool but i miss me desk! I'm having to improvise!
Session went okay, only just over 2k hands, 2 buy ins up. the bankroll is now at $316 dollars. it's a slow grind. [image]2jgsEpV.png[/im

Good session today, up $65 dollars, played just over 4k hands. pretty happy with how it's going, it won't be long before I'm taking shots at 25nl. The roll now sits at $368 dollars. I'll be using a pretty aggressive bankroll strategy for moving up, as I've played and beaten 25nl and 50nl before, so extra time spent at a lower stake is a waste. At 400 bucks I may take a 4 or 6 buy in shot at 25nl [image]mx0RTO0.png[/im

session is going well today, decided to take a shot at 25nl as I'm very confident in my ability to beat micro and low stakes, so far I'm up 6 buy ins plus a bonus so not bad. Obviously this is very risky as i could easily hit some negative variance, but hopefully it continues to go well. i now have $530 dollars, slow progress. All being well and no big downswings and i may be able to grind up a few thousand to keep playing, we shall see. I don't have a job lined up yet for my return, so staying in South east Asia and continuing to play sounds like a good idea. I think the minimum I want to reach is 2.5k by March 3rd to do so. This would allow me to extend for a month and to keep grinding online. This may be my target, hopefully I can reach or surpass it.
Anyway time for a break before I continue the grind. Currently at 1649 hands for the day, I'd like to play at least 3k.

Not a full session today, just under 1500 hands played. I've had a terrible headache today caused by poor sleep. I need to buy earplugs! The road outside is very noisy!
Anyway good session! i made 86 bucks and have nearly unlocked another 10.5 dollar bonus so good progress, ran pretty terribly as you can see, had i ran at my expected value then it would have been double. I'm still pretty happy with how it went however.
Not sure if I'll play more tonight as I need to fully recover from my headache.

oh god you are such a crusher..
hahaha I appreciate the support.
2760 hands, it's time to stop as I'm getting very sleepy. It's 23:26 here in Hanoi.
a good session! $141 dollar profit. That takes the bankroll to $749 dollars, good progress.
Anyway it's almost time to sleep, another day of grinding tomorrow.

It has been a few days since I've posted, so thought I'd post an update. Had a 6.5 buy in downswing one day, mainly due to normal variance, but also probably exemplified by not playing my A game that day, i struggled to get in the zone.
I'm not currently spending a lot of time studying, other than making sure my ranges are down and listening to podcasts. I'm pretty happy that I'm able to beat these stakes with my current game so I'm more focused on getting the hands in.
I think the biggest thing I can do to add EV is off the table, making sure i sleep well and eat healthily, go for walks and take regular breaks.
I'm also listening to my intuition, i find the more i listen to it the better things go. It's not always easy to make big deviations but I'm often right. I think that intuition is pattern recognition, they may be different players but people give off the same bet sizing and timing tells as each other. I find if you can figure out what they're trying to achieve with their bet size you can pretty accurately range them, even nailing their exact hand at times. people at these stakes seem to tell you what they have, i just have to make sure to listen. Most of the time i do a good job of staying tuned in.
Anyway the bankroll now stands at $810 dollars after unlocking a 40 dollar bonus. Hopefully it's not long before I hit 1k.

Isn't online poker illegal in vietnam? Or is it just not enforced? I had thought about traveling there and playing online as well until I read that. How much is your monthly expenses living there? Can you support yourself grinding low stakes online?
I'm not 100% sure how it works but I think it's illegal for residents, there's some other countries like this also. Cambodia for example. But if you're not Vietnamese it's totally fine, totally legal.
Also I'm just building a roll, I've secured job in the UK I'll be going to. But it is very cheap here. My air bnb for example cost me £350 for an entire month and it's really nice and in a good location. And food here is also very cheap! The restaurant just outside is so good! My meals cost about £1.40 each. Earlier after my session I went and bought 3 beers and a kebab for less than £2.
So if you're making money online you can for sure live out here. It's also really safe in Vietnam, I like it here. Vietnam is awesome, safe, clean, cheap to live and the people are really nice.
I'll be returning to a job for 7.5 months, but I'll continue to build my bankroll. Who knows maybe one day I'll be have a big enough roll and be making enough to stay out here. But that's not my goal now I have a job to go to. I'll work for 7.5 months, save, build my bankroll online, then head back out here.
But for sure if you're already doing that this is a cheap place to exist. And very nice. I would say to live comfortably, rent, food, other expenses. Probably around at least 1 thousand dollars a month. I guess it all depends on your choices but it's doable for sure.
Are there any other options to play online besides pokerstars?
I only play on stars at the moment, but I'm assuming most will work here as long as you're not a local trying to make an account. You'd have to check, I don't think Party will work here. But most others perhaps, obviously the crypto ones and GG.
GL friend, will be following

nice results!
i feel the same way... i lost my confidence for a while, but i feel i'm getting back to playing to my strengths and focusing on what they're doing, instead of trying to be "less exploitable" or any such bullshit.
if we have sufficient confidence that they're deviating, that gives us license to deviate ourselves too.
Thanks! And it's impossible to be 100% confident all the time. Usually I feel very confident while playing, but occasionally that slips and I may play sub optimally or with less confidence. I guess the brain is complex and trying to optimise for performance isn't always easy. My biggest challenge at the moment is getting good sleep as I'm next to a busy road!
Subbed, GL!
Are you staying in Hanoi?
