Betting on events decided by audience vote

This might be very stupid but isn't very easy to manipulate audience vote decided events?
You can place bets on events such as Eurovision where the winner is determined by the audience votes + jury.

Is it profitable to find very small audience decided winner events and place bets on the entrant with the highest odds and just buy a shit ton of sms votes on that participant? xd
