Do timeouts generally benefit offense or defense more?
If OT goes to OT2 do they get another set of timeouts, or only at OT3?
Thinking being, timeouts don't seem that beneficial. If your defense is gassed, the smart play might be to use your timeouts on the defensive end to give them a break between plays.

Yeah, that's true. Obviously a much bigger deal in other playoff games since the SB is often in a dome. I'd actually prefer they didn't, so the team losing can pick the side and mitigate the impact of the coinflip unless you have a Pats Bills MNF wind game.

In new ot format if kicking/receiving is pretty close, wind game correct choice would be to pick side.
Edit: seems the kicking team gets to choose side. So in a windy game, winner seems best served to kick.

The Bills’ defensive TO massively helped the Chiefs in the :13 game. Of course nobody made the Bills come back out in the same formation.
Did anyone hear if the ref asked Warner if he wanted to defer, like they do at the beginning of the game? Because that would get weird. Or did he just say do you want to kick or receive?

They flip sides of the field so really means nothing last night. And I guess by reading that, if somehow the Chiefs had a 52 minute possession and the 4th quarter ran out the game would end, but I'm not even certain after reading that.

The playoff rules force the teams to play until someone wins with no chance for a tie. If 4 periods or quarters are played in overtime and the game is still tied, then a new overtime is created with a new coin toss and they play until a winner is declared under the same rules as the first 4 overtime periods.
It gives both teams a reasonable amount of timeouts per period and flips the field each quarter and provides continuity.

Yea no one--including kyle--can ever convince me he knew the rules cuz if he did they're not taking the ball. And the players not knowing the new rules is the frosting on the cake of that argument. Watching this unfold live, the instant they chose to receive I said to my gf "omg they don't know the new rules." I used the word unfathomable multiple times itt to describe this.
Totally unrelated but just thinking back to SB LI, we're talking about the OC who had the Pats dead to rights up 8 with less than 5 min left after Jones made that awesome catch at the Pats 22 yard line. Everyone and their grandma knew if the Falcons ran 3 times and kicked a fg the game was virtually over. Shanahan found a way to **** that up. When it comes to the biggest stage in sports, dude certainly has a knack for the unfathomable.

The 42.1 rating is about the middle of the pack for SBs. The record is 49.1 SB XVI in 1982.
Before yesterday I thought 49ers should be favored. After a game where it felt like all the small stuff went in SFs favor (ball placement, soft penalties,..) I'm pretty sure if they played again next Sunday it would be a pick'em.

The most peanlized O-Line in the season got 0! penalties, despite some pretty obvious holds. Im not blaming the refs, but to say SF was favored in the penalty game is absurd when KC eats 0 Oline holding penalties and the most diaciplined Olineman in the game got hit with back to back penalties.
There was a reddit post about that but basically a team averaging 1.5 holding penalties a game getting zero isn't that shocking.
On the topic of refs I feel like deebo? Would have gotten a pass interference call in the end zone if he raised his arm through the hold so he was actually impeded instead of just theoretically impeded.
