The NHL Thread
For the 5 of us who post NHL stuff, here you go. Officially the season starts Tuesday October 11, although there were tw
Key details from what I understand on Leo Carlsson offer-sheet: Front-loaded and bonus structure, as we’d all expect In the next 12 months, he will earn approximately $39M
the nhl is so ****ing stupid part #78845098634
it's insane you can load contracts like this, 43% of it in year 1
^ ok nvm, thats year 1+2
Just over one year ago: Leo Carlsson joked that he’d sign a 9.5Mx8 contract ‘for sure’ if offered
it was Verbeek who called off all negotiations with Carlsson at the start of the year (by Verbeek’s own admission).
great work all around
the nhl is still a ridiculous old boys club clownshow
Bob Murray, the long time GM for the Anaheim Ducks prior to Verbeek, who was let go for alcoholism and creating a toxic work environment, is currently a senior advisor for the Philadelphia Flyers
on the ducks winning an agents' poll for hardest front office to deal with for the 2nd straight year:
(2026 voting - ducks 7, canucks 4, canes 3, jets 2, 7 teams with 1 vote)
AGENT 1 On the Ducks and GM Pat Verbeek: “Anaheim drives the hardest bargains, but they need to be careful because they can also affect the relationship long-term with the players. And hopefully they realize that.”
AGENT 2 On Anaheim: "When I start negotiating a contract with Anaheim, I tell my (partner), 'You take the first 10 calls with (assistant GM) Jeff Solomon because I don't want to waste my time.' Then when it gets to the end, I get involved because otherwise we're all wasting our f---ing time. They'll fight like tooth and nail for like 10 grand at the end of a deal. If you have a player at a million (point) one and you want it a million (point) 15, it's going to be a f---ing grind. Everything's a grind."
One agent described the Ducks front office as something of a throwback.
“When I started, everybody was angry and telling you to go f--- yourself,” one agent said. “So I kinda miss that. Anaheim, personality-wise, they’re tough. (GM Pat Verbeek) is cranky and runs the show himself and (assistant GM Jeff Solomon) is a grinder. I like those two guys, but tough. I appreciate when they’re a--holes.”
“Verbeek is ridiculous. He draws lines in the sand and sticks by it irrationally,” one said.
“The guy that makes Anaheim tough is Jeff Solomon," another added. "He does all their contracts. Something as simple as doing entry-level deals … there’s always something they nickel you.”
sounds like the problem might be that the ducks owner is a cheapskate, but also verbeek sounds like a dolt. only management experience is working under his buddy yzerman, so you can probably see how we got here. #trusttheyzerplan
Jason Robertson turned down 8 years 15 mill a year from Seattle from Darren Dregger in a trade deal
I know a couple guys in different industries who were offered promotions & big raises. The bosses waited until the very end to mention they required a move to Seattle. Both turned them down to stay in SLC.
reminds me of that possibly true anecdote about kovalchuk or someone trying to get into a busy atl restaurant by saying he plays for the atlanta thrashers and the host was like what's the atlanta thrashers?
I didn’t let a Mammoth player into the bar last year because he didn’t have his ID. He was cool about it, his friend was like whispering “he plays for the Mammoth”, sorry buddy. Bar was dead anyway.
