This made me think of something funny. What is the greatest new anthropomorphization process going on right now in America? In fact it is the very educated professionals class of people that are the ones that are anthropomophizing. It is not believing in a diety like God, of course. Forget that. It is believing that software can develop consciousness and great power and intelligence. It is believing that AI will eventually become a being that will come to dominate us humans. Is this a reasonable belief or not? My gut says it isn't plausible, but smart people are out there claiming that it is.
My 2 cents; lol @ all of you who need a fairytail to find 'strength' or 'guidance' in life.

Devout follower of Jesus here- I find the religious shouting matches quite boring but I’d thought that I’d pop in and say hi.
Nick Holmes’ book series on the history of the Roman Empire btw is super interesting: it only started last year and it has a lot of sources melded together. One part of it is the rise of Christianity and Roman Catholicism. It’s super interesting how divided the church was back then and how people argued back then all the time as well.
The way you hear Orthodox Christians or Catholics speak these days, you’d think the church was united until Martin Luther came along which is frankly just bait.

IÂ’m not an expert in neurology or the underlying philosophy or anything like that, but the notion that computers could achieve actual intelligence, not just a simulation of it, is a deep question and an affirmative answer is at least plausible. The real question is what is it exactly that constitutes intelligence? One possible answer that has been proposed is that human thought is really just a complex manipulation of formal symbols. This means that the neuron firings in and of themselves are not critical to intelligence, but rather it is the network of neurons that creates thought and intelligence. Such a network is implemented in human brains via electochemical stimulation of nerve cells, but the thought is that the actual physical implementation is unimportant and that if the same network were implemented in, say, transistors and logic gates, the result would be actual intelligence.
Like most philosophical questions, it’s certainly open for debate. Current AI is not yet developed to the point where it is rivaling the human brain in network complexity, but our AI programs are starting to display some very human-like behavior. For instance, in one AI experiment, the programmers gave the AI program information that they were planning to terminate the program. The AI program took steps (within the domain of its own AI universe) to prevent them from terminating it. This AI developed a “self-preservation instinct” without such a function being preprogrammed! Even if the whole AI program is not really developing true intelligence, it’s easy to see why there is anthropomorphizing.
Considering the enormous array of bizarre cults that have gained adherents, it is obvious that ANYTHING can be believed and pretty much presumed to be true when people are exposed to and indoctrinated in it.
"Not mine," says the true believer. Not the one with the blood drinking, the human sacrifices, the walking on water, the virgin birth, the magical healings, the undead army, the witches, the demons, the exorcisms ... "There is nothing bizarre about mine, that's those other religions."
The word "conflate" has become popular lately, almost to a fault. But it has no better use than the way the religious conflate morality with their god/religion. They've completely merged the two. It's one of the primary blocks to reassessing their indoctrination, because in their thinking to even consider stepping away from the religion, is tantamount to abandoning morality.
So you hear things come out of their mouth like, "If you don't believe in god, you'd just be running around raping and killing all the time. Because like why not?" When you hear that -- and it's quite common with apologists -- you know you are hearing someone who is terrified of questioning the belief system of their tribe, and has made a caricature of morality both inside of their religion and outside of it.
All of the supernatural-based religions are just made up stories. It could hardly be more apparent. Making up god stories is what primitive cultures do, over and over and over. They combine just-so with magic with myth with homily with superstition with wives tales with wisdom with fable with proverbs with legend with fantasy with sacrament with faith with ritual with moral systems with transcendence mostly based on emotions with ideas of the sacred with tribalism etc. etc.
None of that is from god. Over and over and over ... it's from man.
My understanding is that part of our brain works like AI, in that it builds models out of things it’s experienced to use them to pattern match. But our brains also appear to do lots more than just simple pattern matching, such as making logical inferences, etc.
And even if it develops more if those abilities, AI will always be a tool existing in a machine with an off button.

Consider again the phenomenon of upcoming marriage partners converting belief systems to get on the same page together in the religion game. Baptist to Catholic, Episcopalian to Lutheran, Mormon to Jewish, Islam to Hindu, flippin Moonie to Branch Davidian. It's a farce to believe they have reassessed the metaphysics of the universe in joining the other's religion. No, they changed clubs ... changed religion clubs. Nothing more. This reveals what the game is to the adherents.
As the multitudinous god stories evolved toward monotheism, the dread Yahweh/Jehovah/Elohim character made his appearance. I'll kill you if you don't believe in me, I'll torture you if you don't believe, I'll turn you to a pillar of salt if you don't obey me, I'll commit genocide, I'll destroy the whole species make that all the species because why not?, you think babies and fetuses are innocent? I'll kill them too ... all this out of perfect holy love.
When we trade our tribalistic, vengeful, judgmental, holiness tyrant for an inclusive and compassionate sacredness doctrine, we have gotten out of our shadow (and I do mean shadow) and left the path of primitive religion.
"God is love ... love keeps no record of wrongs" ... god slaughtered the human race for doing wrong (in the Great Flood).
That's checkmate for that belief system being legitimate, moral or coherent, as far as I can see.
A myth is a myth; metaphysics is metaphysics; reality is reality.

That's a plan but it isn't limited to any particular superstition. All of them that say it's theirs exclusively are just indoctrinated an incapable of thinking outside of their little box.
The Jesus story seems archetypal.
Why did Jesus create hundreds of species of fireflies? Why did he create bacteria ... pathogens like yersinia pestis, agent of bubonic plague? Why create countless germs toxic to humanity? Because he likes indiscriminate slaughter?? What other reason is there? What, with all that magic he couldn't create a world without all that? Makes no sense. Seems ridiculous.
Why did he want the species to eat each other?
Why did he create mosquitoes with a deadly pathogen for mankind?
When we look at the natural world, it all makes perfect sense. When we appeal to heavenly father creator, it makes zero sense. When you put the story into actual reality, into nature, it doesn't match up.

Fascinatingly, this once happened to me in regard to my favorite author. His voice "spoke" to me in my head with some counsel regarding his books ... in his tones, his voice. Of course it was my imagination pulling it off, but without any conscious effort in that moment, but certainly with tons of such focus and investment throughout my history. Voila: in a peak moment of the whole reading experience, it came to life as something like a tulpa. Absolutely it did.

For me God = creation = truth = nature = everything
So by that definition, we would all be a part of God. I can roll with that.

If God is everything, then a person who acts as a judge is part of God.
But that is not the only thing God is. God is the wind. God is gravity, energy, matter and time. God is the laws of nature.
