POG PUB 2025-2026: About damn time. For a lot of things. But not everything.
Happy New Year, everyone.
I'll let you all mentally fill in the categories in the title.
fresh squeezed lemon juice is soooo good on salad. use that instead of vinegar, or with the vinegar.
whole foods actually sells a great one "Barcelona vinegrette". it's literally the only bottled dressing i've found that doesn't have sugar, and also tastes great.
I want a thick homemade buttermilk ranch or a light champagne vinaigrette
No in between, I’m embracing my extremes again
No, Caesar salad is not named after Julius Caesar; it is named after its inventor, Italian immigrant Caesar Cardini, who created the dish in the 1920s at his restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico. Cardini supposedly created the salad on a busy Fourth of July weekend when he ran out of food and had to make do with ingredients he had on hand, such as romaine lettuce, croutons, and parmesan cheese.
who left more of a legacy on the world, Julius caesar or caesar cardini?
I think cardini did, as of right now at least. people are constantly ordering Caeser salads all over the world, saying his name millions of times a day
Yeah but lots of people think it's the other guy
And what of the cesarean section? I believe Julius Cesar invented that on the back of a horse whilst conquering Gaul. Pretty influential.
Veni, vedi, vici. Latin for I'm veiny, I'm weedy, I'm witchy. No idea what that means but it sounds great.
Haircut. Rocked by Adam Driver and ER George Clooney. If you are into forehead this is the goto coiff.
The ****ing Calendar? Pretty sure we're still basically on the Julian calendar minus some minor reforms by Pope Gregory and/or Gregor Mendel/Greg Brady.
You will not get this kind of information from Chat GPT.
We have an entire summer month named after Julius Cesar.
Cesar Milan has a greater cultural legacy than Cesar Cardini. Also Cesar Chavez. Salad Boy is like the fourth best Cesar.
AND ALSO
this being my final point
IF
Cesar Cardini was named after Julius Cesar then he is literally grandfathered in and the salad is named for him anyway. Didn't think of that did you.
I did not think of cardini being named after julius... which he probably is. but Ken Griffey Jr is named after Ken Griffey sr, and jr gets full credit for his own accomplishments, and also has a much closer connection to Ken Griffey Sr, than cardini does to julius.
and julius did not invent the calendar. iirc he got it from egyptians
Everyone got everything from Egyptians.
Crazy how much better reducing the balsamic makes it. Yum. I may have to do that tonight.
Whatever happened to the once-thriving pog movie box-office draft game, one wonders.
I kinda regret bringing the whole thing up. I'm not a fan of Cesar salad. I mean I love them, but they aren't very healthy. if I'm eating a salad, I want health! if I'm eating something for the taste, it's not gonna be Cesar salad. I'll get bacon or cheesecake or pizza or something
I feel like people order Cesar salad to be healthy, and no you're fooling yourself. it's literally romaine lettuce and croutons drenched in salt and fat. delicious, but not healthy.
Cesar salad would be better if it had cucumbers, tomato, celery, almonds, pine nuts, multiple lettuces, goldfish crackers, pomegranate

We've gone beyond the Rubicon on the whole multiple lettuce thing. At some point it's not a different lettuce, it's just a goddamn weed and not a tasty one at that.
Fiber is healthy! Plus there are many kinds of lettuce.
I like the mix at Costco, some crunchy stuff and some of the not as good possibly healthier kind that you just want a little of.
Also don't really care for spinach because of how it feels on my teeth.
Caesar salad isn't healthy on its own, but it's a healthier alternative to fries, and nice when you need a vegetable but still want tasty bacon & croutons
I received an aerogarden as a gift and I've been so absurdly lazy that I haven't 'planted' anything yet. Probably won't do lettuce, just herbs, but those lettuces do look pretty great.

I get you on the spinach. I know exactly the sensation you're talking about and it's why, in my opinion, spinach salads need other greens with them or a warm dressing.
Spring mix though is a giant fraud perpetrated by Big Lettuce. "Here, let's take the most perishable items we can possibly find and package them in a giant container that nobody can possibly finish without half of it going bad, charge more for it than a new Prius, and tell people it's gourmet when it's got almost zero texture of any kind--except for a couple of twigs that are so relentlessly bitter that nobody would eat them voluntarily except for a masochist or someone trying to win a bet. But since they have no crunchy elements to speak of, then consumers also have to buy organic nuts at 20 dollars a pound to get that texture back in their salad--when they could have avoided the whole issue by buying a giant head of romaine for $2.99 and had all the crunch they wanted."
It amazes me that people eat spring mix but poison/mow down the dandelions growing in their yards FOR FREE.
Paper towel in the lettuce for moisture seems to help a lot.
