rigatoni and peas with a vegetarian "meat" sauce--I was lazy and used a commercial meat replacement, plus Cans of Stuff and Jars of Spices combined with a Double Glug of Olive Oil and Various Splashes of Balsalmic and Vegan Worcestershire sauce
whelp... I tried to make a gigantic salad, but most of my salad ingrediants got accidentally frozen cuz I put them in the bottom of the fridge, and things freeze in the bottom of the fridge cuz capitalism... so all my veggies were ruined. but ended up with a delicious and easy plan b lunch
If I was in the market for a laptop, what is currently a decent brand to look for, and what sort of specs should I be after? No gaming, just general work type stuff. I could probably stretch to about a grand if paying more would actually make a difference.

I am out of touch with laptops. We use Enterprise-grade Lenovos at work. I bought a consumer-grade Lenovo Gaming laptop two years ago and could not be happier with it. Runs Valorant at 300fps.
I also lost track of CPUs and whatnot but get a real CPU, not Arm64, and get 16Gb of memory. Prices on RAM and SSDs have gone crazy, I don't know what you can get.
We just bought ten new hypervisors, I think those bad boys now cost in excess of $20k each.

Kokiri!!! Nice to see you around. Terrible time to buy a laptop. With that said, I just bought a LG Gram laptop but that is way overkill for what you want.
I would explore the inexpensive options at the Apple store. e.g. Mac Book Neo or Mac Book Air Also look in the refurbished section.
I went with long battery and decent gaming performance as my targets.
Your son is driving soon!? Wow. 😀 My son is on his own working as an engineer and daughter finishes her Masters in the fall. whew.
How hard is it to make the transition to Apple if I've only ever had PCs before? My son suggested apple.

definitely not. I hate America. I hate fireworks. I hate crowds. I hate leaving the house.
and I know I'm always anti everything, but fireworks really suck. my poor dog has fits of terror. we give her trazadone, and that helps. but she is in agony cuz of those stupid fireworks. and she's not the only one. lots of people and animals suffer. and they start fires.
it was great last year when I lived in Santa Monica mountains and no one dared light a firework cuz of the fires. we had peace and quiet, and my dog was happy.
I took one of my dogs (and my grandson) to a fireworks show over by a small private airport a few years ago. It was great! Guys parachuting in with sparklers shooting off them and whatnot.
None of my pets care about fireworks. I have always liked them. As a child, I could see a bit of the nightly Kings Island fireworks display from my bedroom window.
it really changed me when I saw someone I love so much in agony because idiots were exploding fireworks. my real hatred of fireworks happened in LA. and in LA fireworks are on another level. it's not just 4th of july. sometimes it's every day. after the crazy fires there recently, people were still exploding them downtown every day! every day! even during the damn fires!
you might have seen the videos of LA on any given 4th. the entire city is covered in fireworks. the air is horrific
