How Should We Decide Who Lives & Who Dies ??

How Should We Decide Who Lives & Who Dies ??

I invite the audience to treat this as either a literal exercise (as I do) or a theoretical one.

If the human population

Where's the guy who shrugs his shoulders about the destruction of foreign populations under climate change?

I don't want to demonize people who are super wealthy. They simply played the game that was present at the time they were alive. It's the resource consumption which needs to end that is coupled with wealth that needs to end. So long as they are willing to adapt to the new game, they should be welcome to stay and contribute. From a practical standpoint, it's a less bloody transi

Why not just ban child birth and make it punishable by death - and adjust accordingly later on?

Looks like one child increases the peron's footprint by about 58 metric tons/year which is a lot more than you'd be saving by banning personal vehicles and it would be a lot easier than killing the live ones.

You'd be naturally lowering the demand for everything that you'd want like housing transportation and energy costs instead of just hoping that others obey to your requests.

I found a quote I think Nut Nut will like, from David Runciman's book "The Confidence Trap: A History of Democracy in Crisis from WWI to the Present"

Democracies are adaptable. Because they are adaptable, they build-up long term problems, comforted by the knowledge that they will adapt to meet them... The knowledge that democracies can adapt encourages delay; delay encourages drift; fear of drift encourages precipitate action; precipitate action causes mistakes..... So it goes on.... In democracies, there is no final setting of accounts. There is just an endless putting off of the evil day.

Actually came across it while reading "The Icarus Curse", pretty good new book, only about 60 pages in though.

no, there is no mass human death event incoming.

but if there were "too many" people in say, lack of food sense, it would simply be the stronger to survive with the available food , the rest starving, as it always was everytime food was scarce locally in human history.

there is nothing you can do prevent actual power to always be the only thing that matters when it becomes life or death for real.

you are a sad obsessed person, politics broke you completely.

OP is a climate alarmist

This is how they think. This is what they think about. It's predictable and obvious but yeah, it's also dark

A population reduction event has already taken place. The cull is under way as we speak. If you want proof just look at excess mortality stats for western countries over the last three or four years.

I think super wealthy people fly on private jets and own 100 ft+ yachts. Live in homes over 10,000 sf. Have net worth over $100M.

There are 10K US households worth >$100M. That's 0.01% of US hhs. So even if they were consuming 10x more than their median income counterparts (which they're not), that would account for 1% of total consumer spending. So not much potential help for median income and below from the super wealthy. Instead if you want to help them you need to look at the 20% of hhs making $100K-$300 that account for over 50% of total consumer spending. Redistributing 25% of that demo's income to the poor would basically raise everyone up to median income. That's capitalism's next move, imo. Seems like every major university has a UBI department or work group going on. Last time I saw that was prior to Obamacare becoming a reality. So I'm thinking recruits for the revolution might not want to give up their monthly check for the greater good.

As far as who gets to live, random is the fairest under your hypothetical. But hardly optimal for the species. For optimal species EV I'd sort by income if we're talking single criteria.

There are a lot of jobs that people with high income don't want to do.

In the future, I'm not sure that we're going to continue using money. UBI might mean just giving everyone what they need.

pretty much this... take a look at population stats.

Let's let God choose by taking away the people that have broken the most of the ten commandments. We'd get rid of the terrible people and everyone left would be better off.

Even though I'm not religious I wouldn't be worried about getting killed.

Star Trek... Death Wish

on a side note... I DO believe ritualized Suicide should be legalized.

God IS nature and he is doing just that. Everything is right on schedule.

I don't disagree with anything there except the "he" characterization

Sexual reproduction and multicellular organisms were not introduced to Earth until billions of years has passed.

As far as we know, males seem to have existed for less than 5% of the history of the universe.

I can't help but think that if everyone had equal abilities to perform any role in the economy, the least pleasant jobs would pay the most and the most rewarding ones the least.
