Ukraine-Russia War Take 2
Here is what the preliminary take on the Ukraine thread disappearing is:

War economy works good while you're at war but their unemployment is going to sky rocket when the war ends. America had a big issue after WWII but lucky for them all the other industrialized nations were blown to pieces during the war and America became a manufacturing powerhouse while the rest of the world rebuilt. Even if Russia "wins" it's going to be tricky transitioning ba
Unemployment isn't necessarily going to skyrocket, because so many working age adults got killed or incapacitated by the war, and immigrants mostly left because of actual material poverty, that jobs will be plentiful for survivors.
Problem is the actual production per capita won't be, and already isn't.
This is more akin to continental europe after WW1, where the coming back of maimed and incapacitated soldiers triggered social and economical disasters in various countries including italy.
With the additional problem of the emigration of workforce risk, which i don't think Putin will be able to block, in the sense that if/when the war ends given the dire economic situations the best and the brightest will leave, after relationships are renormalized with european countries (which they will be, if the war ends).
Btw the same applies to Ukraine, they are done for, no coming back at all, even if a fraction of the refugees don't come back that's gg ukraine forever. Their demographic pyramid was already terrible because of brain-drain pre 2022, now it's completly unsustainable and guarantees societal collapse in the medium term.

Sad but true
if anyone has watched the latest Den of Thieves movie sequel with a bunch of famous actors then they would know that Russian propaganda has fully infiltrated Hollywood.
victor whens the war end
I dont know. I guess when the Zelensky govt collapses which may take awhile. or may happen tomorrow.
it doesnt look like Putin wants to deal anymore and they are going to take what they want.

Izyum city
Lately I have been observing how these attacks are no longer being noticed.
They have practically disappeared from Western publications, there are noticeably fewer of them on Twitter.
And, of course, this hurts, because these are the human lives of ordinary Ukrainians who are not guilty of anything and never wanted this war.
Russia killed 5 more people. An Iskander strike on an administrative building in the city center. 55 were wounded. Tax officials, children's services, and people who were simply on the street at the time.
For Russia, this is called another "decision-making center."
For Ukraine, these are girls aged 18 and 19 who were found among the dead. One of them was pregnant.
Keep the memory of the dead. Help the victims. Write and talk about them.
They are dying only because Russia denies them the right to exist.
homie helps not coming. The united states is currently trying to annex my country I'm sorry to say but no one cares anymore. My country's incapable of doing much more anyway we have zero military capability and gave what we could.
The united states is not a reliable ally and the eu seems incompetent or just too weak to make a difference.

Yeah. Unfortunately your country and Europe have completely abdicated the responsibility of keeping the world safe, and are showing zero interest in course correction. Annexing Canada and then forcing them to remilitarize is one solution to the problem. But unfortunately when a nation has been completely free loading so long, in their minds it becomes their right, and they will "fight" to keep it this way.
Countries like Canada and Denmark have been, and will continue to do, diddly squat to counter Chinese and Russian advances in the Arctic; but they will fully expect the US to protect them while doing everything in their power to make this as hard as possible for the US.
lol Canada has done way more then its share in Ukraine you have no idea what your talking about. Canada is just not a major power and has no military (for a good reason we don't need one) Its actually the US fault that tricked the world into thinking it would protect it then not doing so. It was never canadas responsibility to begin with and barely the eu's. The united states are the people who want to spend trillions on military spending. No one forced you to do this.
Remember the Us decided to be the world police no one forced you. your free to stop being it but that does not mean others have to take your place. but the eu definitely should for their own security. I bet your one of those Trumpers who thinks he got a big win over Canada after he backed out of tariffs because of things we offered him two months ago

--The post-WWII world order entailed the entire world accepting the US dollar as a reserve currency, and buying massive amount of US debt. And the US used this borrowed $$ to be the world's policeman and import market, sacrificing its own manufacturing capabilities in the process.
Now the world doesn't really want a US dollar reserve currency and buying endless US debt anymore, which is perfectly fine. But that also means the US is not going to be be the world's policeman or importer moving forward. And it is going to take protectionist measures to re-invigorate its own manufacturing capabilities; and this is going to include (but not be limited to) tariffs.
It just is what it is. Nothing lasts forever.
right logic wrong idea.
"he post-WWII world order entailed the entire world accepting the US dollar as a reserve currency, and buying massive amount of US debt. And the US used this borrowed $$ to be the world's policeman and import market, sacrificing its own manufacturing capabilities in the process."
your manufacturing capabilities were not sacrificed they were upgraded. Its called technology. When the train was invented people didn't go back to carrying coal in horse carriages. America is still by far the greatest economy in the world. don't listen to your silly far right wingers. Those jobs are never coming back and its for the better. Let the poor country's do it

The world still definitely wants a us dollar reserve currency and to buy us debt who told you otherwise?. EVERYONE IS IN MASSIVE DEBT not just you. But we don't have the world reserve currency. So we really really need you to stay in debt because if you don't we will go bankrupt. This is a huge advantage for you. you get free money. do you not like free money? Debt is actually very unimportant as every country has massive debt and every country owns the debt of the other countries debt.
And if you don't want to be the world police anymore that's fine. horrible decision based on the last paragraph but that's your choice. That does not give you the right to go against signed trade agreements (that trump agreed to in his last term btw) with your top allies but the path your taking is leaving you isolated on an island if you continue your literally pushing allies into the enemies sphere of influence.
isolationism fantasy's are just that fantasy's its 2025 not 1910.
Fun fact the right wing media wont tell you if you take out oil imports Canada pays more in trumps delusional "trade deficit" The united states manufactures more then Canada already your just receiving raw resources from us. He also tariffed our steel 8 years ago and he had to bail out your steel industry. That's what would happen if you do it again but on a more massive scale.
The things your media is claiming Canada folded and conceded in negotiations were agreed and offered over a month ago.
You broke decades of trust between our country's and for what? a gotcha in the media because trump caved and now all of Canada is boycotting American products while zero Americans are doing the same so you actually made the trade deal worse for you ? Even most right people think this is insane.
keep your insanity in your own country thanks.
How would you like it if your best friend threatened to break a contract while ignoring your worst enemy who you are actively at war with then makes daily comments about making you his slave (annexation)
Were allies in a war against Russia and your threatening to annex us. its insane
The proposed deal that is circulating (not sure if the sources are trustable) is a complete capitulation toward russian interests with europe being particularly massacred as well.
The moment has come to shock the doldrums with the strength of our resolve - and if anyone can do it, it's Donald Trump — Boris Johnson in a Daily Mail column
lol no. there's no point you don't win a conventional war against 1 trillion a year. Canada has no need for a military I wish we sent off every piece of equipment we have to Ukraine its a win win. we wouldn't have to pay upkeep costs anymore. The only defense we can have against America is starting a civil war which would likely happen in that event.
Any Canadian military spending would just be captured and destroyed in the first 10 hours. better spent on social services or pipelines. You don't fight unwinnable wars and destroy your population (sorry ukraine)

I like that your solution to keeping the world safe from war is to militarily annex an ally, and then continue your post as if there somehow exists a universe where this makes sense.
Also, it is tiresome to listen to these repeated "free-loading" takes. Denmark and Canada has lost people assisting you in wars, and people like you spitting on the graves of their soldiers because you are unable to debate policy without using cheap rhetoric sponsored by your country's enemies is rather grating.
For what it is worth, China and Russia would like nothing more than for your country to start claiming territory using threats of military force or actual military force. If you stop listening to sponsored hot takes, maybe you can ponder this and figure out why.
imperialism is back he did a poor job of hiding it

I take it you've never visited the Canadian memorial at Vimy Ridge, as I have. Oh well. The main purpose of military forces is to prevent war by deterrence, by complicating the aggressor's calculations and imposing a cost on aggression. A country disarmed or unwilling to resist is just meat on offer. The only thing pacifism has ever achieved is to bring about the Second World War, the greatest catastrophe in human history since the Black Death, by making Britain, France and the US too weak-kneed to say boo to the dictators before it was too late. And if Ukraine hadn't surrendered its nuclear weapons the current horror couldn't have happened.

TD,
You mind doing a year in review for Ukraine? How you think Russia and Ukraine are doing, the North Koreans, Ukraine's incursion to Kursk, etc...
it seems the Ukraine will give up the Eastern Oblasts to Russia, give up their resources to the USA to pay off the debt of funding the war, and wont get into NATO. cue the Kissinger quote.
it does seem Trump is not yet forcing Ukraine to sacrifice their 18 year olds. admittedly, when I flippantly said "to the last Ukrainian", I was wrong.

sure but deterrence wont work against the United states. They have a 1 trillion dollar budget. And you don't need deterrence against anyone else Because your closest trade partner and ally has to protect you for their own defense.
Canadas only deterrence against the united states is making the united states implode politically from invading it.
Trump ran on an isolationist platform and has already threatened Canada Panama Denmark and probably Mexico with annexation. Not exactly helping the Ukrainian cause.
If you think Canada having a military vs not having a military in 2025 has any effect on the world your quite naive. Canada is an island nation sharing an island with a country that has over half the worlds military soft power. Nothing they do will matter so its better spent on the people.
Also about Vimy Ridge. You know those were 100% volunteer unlisted solders right? We didn't have a military before ww1 and ww2 started either. War has changed anyway volunteer foot soldiers won't cut it anymore and we can't afford what America can. I think if Canada does have a military in the future it should be focused on foot soldiers and not high tech aviation and tanks to play a supporting role as it has in the past. A guerrilla force is best for defense against the united states anyway spending billions on F-35 that get blown out of the sky on day one of an invasion is pointless you can look at Ukraine for that. Canada should learn from that and only invest in drones
Speaking about vimy ridge tho apparently Canada owns that land in France. So joining the eu might be quite easy legally
