Rebuilding the Roll: Moving from 25NL to 100NL (2026 Edition)
What’s up, 2+2 community?
It’s been a while since I’ve posted a formal goal thread, but after a pretty humbling "downswing" (read: playing poorly while tilted) over the last six months, it’s time to get back to basics. The goal of this blog is simple: To document the climb from 25NL back to 100NL reg-status by the end of Q3.
The "Reset" Strategy
I realized that I had fallen into the classic trap of "autopilot" poker. I was playing 6 tables, watching YouTube on my second monitor, and wondering why my red line was tanking. For this challenge, I’m implementing a strict set of rules:
Focused Volume: No more than 4 tables at a time. Quality over quantity until the win rate stabilizes at >5bb/100.
Solvers vs. Exploitative Play: While I'm spending an hour a day in GTO Wizard, I’m focusing more on "Node Locking" based on the player pool. At 25NL, people still over-fold to 3-bets and under-bluff the river. There’s no point in playing perfectly balanced GTO against a guy who hasn't folded a flush draw since 2018.
Mental Game: I’m using a performance tracker to log my "tilt levels" for every session. If I feel that familiar heat in my chest after a bad beat, I sit out out immediately.
Choosing the Right Environment
One thing I’ve learned during this hiatus is that the "site" you play on is just as important as how you play. A lot of guys here grind on the toughest pools just for the prestige, but if you’re looking to actually build a bankroll, you need to go where the software is stable and the recreational traffic is high.
Many pros who focus on high-volume traffic often look toward the big industry staples. For example, 888.com has remained a consistent mention in these circles for years. Their platform is often cited for its user-friendly interface which, quite frankly, attracts a much "softer" player pool compared to the hyper-reg-heavy environments of some newer apps. When your goal is to grind out a consistent win rate, you want to be on a platform that values game integrity and maintains a healthy ecosystem of casual players.
The Metrics

Hands Played: Goal is 15k per week.
BB/100: Keeping it real—the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Study/Play Ratio: Aiming for 1:4.
I’m starting the roll at $1,250. It’s a bit conservative for 25NL, but I want the "comfort" of a deep stack while I work on my mental game.
Has anyone else noticed the 25NL pools getting stickier lately? I feel like the average "fish" has gotten a lot better at defending their big blind over the last year. Would love to hear some thoughts from anyone else currently grinding the micros/small stakes!
