Grinding and study challenge --> Is there still money to made in poker?
Hey all,
I think we have all heard it by now. There is no money to made in poker anymore for one of the follow reasons:
- The rake is to high.
- Too many bots.
- Everyone is solid even on low stakes.
So i thought to myself that it would be fun to try to prove otherwise, and here is the twist.
I am what you pros would call a recreational player, not super bad but i am definitely the player with
the lowest EV on tables with no maniacs in most formats and my current result
last 365 days (according to GGpoker) is -$30.000
So why is it like this? Well most of my losses is from All-in or Fold and 6-card PLO. I stopped playing
Texas Hold'em online like 10 years ago because it was 'boring'. But recently tried for the first time to study
some GTO (RFI preflop) and played a couple thousands hands of Texas Hold'em and i kind of fell in love again.
For the first time in a long time i felt like a poker player and not a gambler, and it felt GOOD!
So the challenge is as follows:
Try to play a minimum of 20.000 (with goal being 30.000) hands per month and study at least 1 hour per day.
Since i know 0% GTO and all this about ranges and stuff like that at the moment i will focus mostly preflop play to begin
with followed by flop play and progress with my studies as time goes on. My study material to begin with will be GTOwizard
but will probably start watching courses and videos as well soon enough.
I will try to update daily when there is updates too give with weekly and monthly recaps.
I will be starting with a bankroll of $150 on NL5 and for now i will keep to the 30 buy-in rule,
moving up in stakes when i have $300 for NL10 and down if i get $60 for NL2, you get the point.
Well thats about it, very short info about me:
- Working full-time, poker has just been a hobby.
- 38 years old
- From northern europe
- Need this challenge to stimulate my brain and have some fun
- No kids and recently single, so i got nothing to blame but myself if i slack off.
Wish me luck
