Dear 2p2,
BACKGROUND
In 2024:
- I made a thread here with a goal of being out of debt and having £25,000 bankroll before 2025. I lost my password and stopped updating a long time ago. Old thread: https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/174/p...
- I did not think I would be able to achieve this goal, however I actually did make it to £25,000 and I have paid off all of my debts except for about £1,000.
- Unfortunately, I made some bad degenerate decisions and now I am back down to around £10,000 bankroll.
- Considering I was about -£15,000 in debts around 2 years ago and £0 in the bank and I have worked my way out of it, I need to remember that right now things are way better than they were.
THE SITUATION
Right now:
- As of today, we have a new thread and a new goal of starting with £10,000 and making it to £100,000.
- My current bankroll is £8,000 in an investment account which I can withdraw at anytime (but takes 3 days to process) and make a very small monthly return (but my money feels safer here than in my bank account i.e. I can't deposit £10,000 in 5 minutes and lose it all playing roulette), and about £750 in my bank account. I get paid about £2,500 on Jan 31st and after my end of month bills, I will be left with about £10,000 total on Feb 1st, which is when the challenge will officially begin.
- I am doubtful as to whether or not I am a winning poker player right now. I do not think I have enough self control to consistently win at online poker cash games which is what I used to win at. I am not skilled in MTTs. I think I can beat £1/£2 live poker. This is where my mindset is starting at in this part of my poker journey. It is a bit scary because back in the day I knew I could grind low stakes and print money then take shots higher but not sure right now.
- My current job ends at the end of February and I will receive my final pay check of around £1,000. After that, I am all alone with no income.
- I am relocating at the end of January to cheaper accommodation of around £400 total per month.
- I am hopeful to get a small amount of extra money back from: rental deposit after leaving current flat (paid £625 lets see what I get back), internet box (£40?), monthly savings interest (£?), sell random items I have like screen and clothes (£100?), potentially some tax back due to not working end of Feb, March or April (and think I have overpaid so far this year).
- I am scared because about a month ago I lost a lot of money being a degenerate online gambling and it's going to be a little difficult winning that money back and staying in control.
SHORT TERM GOALS - PHASE 1
Phase 1 starts right now and is the most important phase. The reason it is so important is because if phase 1 fails, there will be no more phases.
Phase 1 involves: self discipline, self control and patience. What I need to do is stay strong to survive my final month or so of real life 9-5 work without self sabotaging anything which would massively negatively impact everything I plan to do.
From now until Feb 1st I will not be playing any poker or doing any other types of gambling.
On Feb 1st, I can then make a deposit and play with the following rules: Only play online tournaments, with a maximum buy in of $10, and a daily total stop loss of $25. This means in February it is impossible for me to lose more than $750, and that would require me cashing in 0 tournaments (which is very possible considering I suck at them). The goal here is not to make any money, but simply to re-wire my brain into poker mode. I need to be able to say that I can sit down and play well for multiple hours and have a solid mindset whether I win or lose. If I win any money, great, if I lose $750 but remain focused and stick to my plan, that will go down as a big success, in preparation for the next phases.
So, until Feb 1st my boring schedule looks roughly like this: Wake up, go to work, spend as little money as possible, rinse and repeat.
LONG TERM GOALS - POKER
1) Goal: £100,000
- Current: £8,750
LONG TERM GOALS - LIFE
1) Increase body weight to 90kg.
2) Take a nice holiday in the sunshine.
3) Play the WSOP Main Event.
4) Go to a football World Cup 2026 game.
5) Buy a property.
PLAN B & PLAN C
B - If my total bankroll / net worth drops to £7,500 I will get another easy / part time job and try and continue to succeed with Plan A.
C - If my total bankroll / net worth drops to £5,000 I will most likely quit and get a full time job and this is over.
This initial post seems slightly chaotic (apologies), but I need to get it posted now to keep myself in check at the moment.
Unlike my last last thread, I intend to keep going with this one, win or lose, until I make it or tap out.
All being well, next post will arrive on Feb 1st and it will be time for some MTT grinding.
Stay strong, thank you and good luck all....
