Daniel Negreanu's very own containment thread. All things Danny go here
how bad must he be when a girl falls asleep while making out and snores right after?
life fish..... food arrived but didn
How is this possible? PLO is his jam guys!
crazy the amount of haters in this chat
even if u find him OTT now u gotta admit DN has had a long ccarer as a POKER PLAYER
Absolutely. And if he somehow went broke and lost all of his endorsements I think he'd make a living from purely playing poker again. He just doesn't have the motivation.
Haters come with success - the more success the more haters.

Pretending he might drink every day so he can hawk that snake oil hangover cure is pretty gutter stuff.
Edit: lol obv the day I post about it he follows through!

Haha.. Yeah, unreal! And selling some psychiatry app too. He's always done an ad here and there, but it's really OTT this year. Feels like a couple of them every day. Wouldn't have thought he could be making enough off them for it to be worthwhile to him.
I really dont understand what he gains from shilling for speculative companies. BetterHelp ... whats next? Mobile Games? I cant believe he gets enough money to make it worth it, so the only explanation is that hes naive and thinks hes helping people, but doesnt bother vetting the companies before going ahead. Its like "Mental health support is good, I accept!" is the extent of his though process.
Whatever he’s shilling now is still better than Choice Center.
He probably makes a decent amount off the ads. My 20 year old niece has a small tik tok following, maybe 20k. She has random companies that reach out to her and ask her to shill their products. They will pay her anywhere form $200-$800 plus she gets a ton of free products, 1 month last year she made 5k. This isn't her main thing, she is in college and has just done tik tok stuff on the side for the past few years.
Daniel has almost 900k subscribers on YouTube he probably gets low 5 figures, maybe 10k for these promos potentially more, even if it is 5k, he has 26 vlogs so far this year, if it was only 5k a video, that's 130k so far, definitely worth it. Also consider he has multiple shill spots in a video some times, so very realistic that for his whole WSOP vlog series he make mid to high 6 figures or even more.
He also uses promo codes for the products so he most likely gets a commission. His deals are prob $X up front plus affiliate earnings, and he is big enough he has some kind of marketing/pr company that negotiates these deals for him which gets him better rates then him doing it on his own.

He's been with Poker Royalty for decades I believe, I actually met him through a run-in with his agent Brian Balsbaugh back in 2007 when Bluff Magazine was still a thing and they hosted a WSOP party at Sapphires Gentlemans Club
Haven't seen him in any events recently. Maybe taking time off before defending his title in the $50K 9-game.

Money. to be fair betterhelp has good marketing until you realize most people who work there are in no way qualified but if you just hear "were connecting people who need help with those willing to help" it sounds better.
Wow, he hit them with the "I'd do well in these things if I actually tried. But I don't care enough."
He made the realization that the lower stakes have a lot of bad players, which he could beat, but what's the point? Why try when you can shove Q5o into AQ for the laughs
Talking about $1500s
There is a lot of hate for DNEGs in this thread. I think he is good for the game, a good player, and likeable.
He does punt in the low buy-in NLH events though. He obviously just doesn't care to grind a small stack and he admits it. But he is definitely winning in the mixed games.

I don't argue that he's good for the game from a marketability standpoint, he's watchable, he's a solid player in mixed games, etc.
But many years ago he was a massive hypocrite who was constantly preaching to viewers about one thing or another.
And while he's improved over the years to be less abrasive in that regard, he still completely lacks any self-awareness and acts like a giant man-child.
Whether it's his
- hissy fits of WSOP prior where he was throwing and smashing things
- his general disdain for the fans that adore him and allow him to make millions in yearly sponsorships
- him shoving his camera in peoples faces annoying them
- throwing passive-aggressive insults at people when he loses
- teasing and laughing when he plays like an idiot trying to spin it up and sucks out (nane-nane-boo-boo!)
- constantly singing his stupid Daniel Negreanu, The Man, The Myth, The Legend song in a desperate attempt that others will join him singing it
Not to mention a few years back at that WSOP Party where he was drunk as a skunk and kept calling every Asian guy he say "Rampage" (hurr-durr!) and then started getting physical with one of them.
Then later in his vlog he's stumbling around in the dark trying to find his way back to bed, alone, with no friends looking out for him.
I legitimately enjoy most of Daniel's WSOP vlog. I don't really play seriously anymore, and I enjoy living vicariously through him during the summer in terms of mixed games and vegan takeout/snacks.
However.
I specialized in PLO when I played seriously. And although I'm most familiar with cash game (no ante) preflop ranges, and I understand that the BB ante that's in tournament play loosens up play...
The guy just has a rage-inducing ignorance of preflop blunders, to my limited and rusty but fairly expert mind. "How can I not limp behind on the button with QT96 bad suit?" Oh, because you think you have an edge postflop? Even though you describe situations in which you're outplayed regularly by guys who ostensibly actually know what they're doing?
Daniel Negreanu is pretty obviously an intelligent poker player. He would crush me in stud games and draw games. He's done his homework to stay up to speed with NLH.
But the guy is just completely delusional about PLO. For a guy who has an "Oopsie Meter" and a willingness to reflect on his own play, "fold pre" just doesn't ever occur to him in retrospect in that game, and I don't understand how he has yet to understand the connection between playing weak combos and being in marginal spots.

I wonder if that drunken party vlog is still up or if it's been removed

You are spot on my friend about his PLO game ; I usually don't bother chiming in, because so many comments are lol ITT, but as someone that has played with Daniel both in PLO and NLHE, I can safely assess that while I respect his latter game, PLO is most likely his weakest game (and my strongest).

In the 50k PLO Vlog he limped shitty QQJX one suit utg, call pot from BU. He does this even admitting hes against one of the absolute tier 1 PLO players so he knows he cant have post flop edge OOP and still does it. That play is something you learn to stop doing after playing $1 MTTs on stars against face up opponents.... let alone against crushers.. its just glaringly -EV.
Gets into a dumb spot because he floats to the river with QQ "blockers" to the eventual straight and makes a speculative play to bluff off his stack. That entire play is 50k down the drain when "fold pre" solves the entire issue.

Sir, Daniel has assured us that PLO is "his jam". I imagine he's never flopped the mirror and still run into a set yet. I think he just thinks because equities run so close preflop that he's always in a coin-flip situation post-flop
Plays his first senior event, explains his edge vs. a weaker field (don't disagree). 3 bullets later: " "I'm so tilted, I'm so frustrated. This was so unbelievably easy. But every hand I played, they had top pair. They never missed.......The cards were spitting in my face. I swear to you, if I play that thing 100 times, I'm going to cash 50 of them." I mean he did bust one bullet calling it off pre-flop after 3 players had already moved all in but ya. Guy is a content machine.
