The Origin of the Term “Bingo” in Poker — My Story

Hi everyone,
I want to share how I coined the term “Bingo” in poker back in 2005. It reminded me of the first time I went to a bingo hall with my mom. While watching the numbers on the TV, I jumped up yelling “Bingo!” — only to have my mom pull me down and explain the next number was about to be called, but it wasn’t mine yet. I had no clue what I was doing and called bingo prematurely.
My jumping up and calling Bingo prematurely reminded me of players who go all-in preflop with no real strategy online. At the time, my poker username was 1ELF (“Evil Little ****er”), and the term quickly caught on among my poker friends.
Has anyone else used or heard “Bingo” in this context? I’m interested to hear your thoughts or other poker slang stories. Also, when did you first hear this term being used yourself at the tables?
Thanks for reading!

I think I was using this term back in 2000, but I don't think I was the only one.

I tried to find when it was first written in these forums, but i couldn't search back further than 2005. Perhaps this was you?

Default Re: HU ring game blind action. How\'d i do

well, this is how i saw the hand.

flop, i got middle pair, heads up, i think they would be fairly good. i really doubted that he would have the ace since its UTG without a PFR, and we all know how people with aces love to bet pfr in micro.

the turn, another ace, makes it less likely my opponent has an ace. i think my hand still might be good, and i got hte runner runner flush goin.

river, bingo, hit my 1/24, figured trip aces were the worst i could face.

He wasnt using the word as i coined it to mean people who go all in preflop. I think he was just say bingo ( it hit) which is not the same thing. Thank you for looking. It would be awesome if someone had access to chat logs on tiger gaming in 2005 to show me saying it first time.
