For this Publisher’s Note, I decided to do something a little different and go back to my Publisher’s Note from our very first magazine in February 2005. Here’s an excerpt:
As most of you know, our main business here in Two Plus Two Land is writing and producing top quality books on poker/gambling. Fortunately for us, a great poker boom has occurred and our book sales have simply been phenomenal. But will this continue?
This great boom, as far as we’re concerned began on June 1, 2003. On that day we received an order from one of the major book wholesalers that was the size of a typical month. We even gave Baker & Taylor Books a call to make sure that this wasn’t some sort of misprint. It wasn’t.
Well, times have changed and today things are a little different. Thanks to many events, including the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in 2006 (though it wasn’t really implemented until several years later) and the events of Black Friday in 2011 where Internet poker for U.S. players was mostly closed down, we see a very different poker market. Not only are sales of all poker books way down, but I think it’s fair to say that virtually everything poker is way down. But it doesn’t have to stay this way.
At the time of this writing, the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is debating an Internet gambling bill in their state legislature that includes Internet poker. We don’t know if it will pass, but lots of effort from poker players and the Poker Player’s Alliance is being made to help the Pennsylvania legislatures know that this is a good bill and will be beneficial to the state of Pennsylvania. And there’s a discussion thread in our “Poker Legislation & PPA Discussion Forum hosted by Rich Muny”.
On a different note, for those of you interested in signing up to Upswing Poker, there’s a “Special 2+2 $10 discount. Here’s a link to the sign-up page:
I’ve spent some time reading their material and it’s extremely good.
